After only a few years in the creation of innovative sailing clothing, Gill was appointed as the official supplier to Great Britain’s team entry for the America's Cup as a result of the windproof and waterproof technology featured in the sailing kit. Gill continued to push creative boundaries through the 1980s where it was arguably one of the world leaders in sailing and dinghy clothing.

By the end of the decade, Gill launched its first range of sailing accessories which included boots, gloves and hats. Offering everything the sailing enthusiast requires, Gill became a popular brand of clothing for competitive water sports and was used to supply Team GB during the 1994 and 2000 Olympics.
